So my time in Berlin has gotten off to a very interesting start. There are football (Soccer) games every week. We had a trip to Hamburg over the weekend as part of something that Intrax arranged for us. I'm starting to actually feel like I'm living in Europe. I've got to say that for the most part, I'm glad I chose Berlin if only for the food. You can find some really good places with some of the most affordable food in Europe. I made the mistake of going to McDonald's the other day, where they decided to charge me 14 euro for a burger and fries. Well, today I decided to walk to a nearby mall during my lunch break at work and found this pizza place that served me a giant slice for 2 euro and it was the most delicious thing I've eaten in a long time.
Work has been pretty relaxed. I've been working on some google doc/excel spreadsheets these last couple of days, and we had an interesting meeting on Monday where we all had to get up and talk about what we did the week before and what we are doing this week. I think it's definitely a good thing, and I find it to be an interesting part of our company's culture.
The weather the last couple of days has been mostly rain. It's not really cold but there's a slight chill in the air sometimes due to the wind. But the worst weather I've experienced so far was when we were in Hamburg during the weekend. We rode on top of one of those sight-seeing tour buses and it was absolutely freezing outside.
I enjoyed Hamburg, but I feel like there wasn't as much to see as there is in Berlin. The tour pretty much took us around the city and to some famous people's houses. I noticed they had a lot of musicals playing over there like "The Lion King." They also had some attractions like a Burlesque show, and a "Hamburg Dungeon" horror house (Which I didn't go to, unfortunately.) The hostel that we stayed in was actually pretty nice. I was surprised, it had a delicious breakfast included as well. And the food in general in Hamburg was pretty amazing (And worth the trip.)
I haven't gotten to take many pictures of Berlin because of the rain and the fact that we left to Hamburg on our first weekend, but expect the next blog post to have many pictures as I'm going to go exploring this coming weekend. Berlin has so much art and culture everywhere you turn, I don't think there is any city like it. I have had some streaks of homesickness, but I think I'm starting to get over it. I'm really looking forward to the days to come.
