This past week marked two major landmarks. The first was finishing a major project for Groupon. This project involved applying the accounting and finance skills I learned in my first two years at Virginia Tech by consolidating monthly Key Performance Indexes (KPIs) for January-December for Spain into an annual KPI. In addition, I reconciled journal entries to ensure that the KPI was accurate. After spending three weeks preparing the consolidated information, seeing my final result felt like a victory. Through this work, I became proficient in Spanish Microsoft Excel as well as English Microsoft Excel. Resume builder? I think so.
The second landmark included my first Eastern European travel. My country of choice was Hungary and my cities of choice were Sopron and Budapest. After a victorious week at work, I jetted off to Hungary late Friday afternoon but did not arrive until nearly midnight. After such an exhausting day, I decided it would be best to get to bed early. An early night led to an early morning. That morning I toured most all of Sopron before lunch. I was staying at a friend's house and was able to enjoy a traditional Hungarian home-cooked lunch, including Goulash and Beef Porkolt. Yum! Some of the most delicious food I have ever had. Let’s just say I was not left hungry.....
Budapast was even more impressive than Sopron. On arriving in Budapest, we wasted no time and set off on our tour. Our first views were from a boat tour on the Danube. We passed under the bridges linking Buda and Pest. All of the landmarks were visible from the water. On our second day, we toured both the memorial to the heroes of Hungary and the Buda Castle. Both landmarks were impressive, but the view from the Castle was amazing! You could see for miles all around Budapest. This may be one of the most memorable views of my life.
