Criteria for employers is as follows: 

  • Must have an Employer Identification Number
  • Must have Worker's Compensation Insurance (or proof of exemption or self-insured)
  • 5 full-time employees per 1 intern ratio for host companies hosting more than 1 intern/trainee
  • Annual revenue of $3 million or a minimum of 25 employees OR on-site visit
  • A direct supervisor listed on DS-7002 Training / Internship Placement Plan must be on-site (not remote)
  • English must be the primary language spoken in the office, and business websites must be in English

For interns:

  • Must be a foreign national either currently enrolled in and pursuing studies at a degree or certificate-granting post-secondary academic institution outside the U.S. or graduated from such an institution no more than 12 months before their exchange visitor program start date
  • Ages 18 years or older
  • Have proficient English skills to fully function in an English-speaking environment and benefit from the training opportunity
  • Demonstrate their intention to leave the U.S. upon completing the program and return to their home country
